OECD 407/OCSPP 870,3: Oral toxicity study (repeated dose, 28-Day)

The OECD 407: Repeated Dose 28-Day Oral Toxicity Study is used to determine the toxicity of an orally ingested chemical. It is recommended that the test is performed on rats, although other rodents may be used, and involves dividing the animals into sub-groups and administering a different fixed dose of the test substance to the groups, through gavage or via their food/water, over a period of 28 days. Throughout this period, clinical and functional assessments are performed to determine the toxicity and thus health hazard of the chemical.
